Why Chippin Is Your New Favorite Dog Food!

Meet my best friend Buddy, or as I call him, Buddy boy. He’s a 12 year old Shih tzu that still acts like a puppy that was unfortunately diagnosed with colitis two years ago. I look at the issues Buddy was having at the time which were bloody stools, constipation, skin rashes, and I never thought it could be the food affecting his poor stomach. While dogs can be omnivores unlike cats, (carnivores) we experimented with home made meals that consisted of fresh rice with chicken and sweet potatoes. To cook this every night became a challenge because not only was it time consuming, but he has always been an extremely picky eater.

As soon as I received Chippin dog food, Buddy started eating it! Shocking to say the least, I can feed this to him knowing it benefits in protecting his gut and giving him the proper nutrition he needs.

Who is Chippin?

Chippin is a women owned business that started in 2019 by Founders Haley Russell and Laura Colgrande. Their mission? To nourish dogs with high quality foods that help “chip in” to reduce the carbon paw print. Chippin is made with a curated selection of all natural ingredients and cricket, spirulina and silver carp proteins. These are science-backed sources of digestible protein that use 80%+ fewer resources!

Haley started designing the Chippin dog food in her NYC kitchen apartment at the start of 2020 and throughout the COVID-19 quarantine period. She started experimenting with different proteins to feed her dog to maintain a healthy diet for him. Cricket protein was at the top of the menu for her dog which he loved! Soon then she began doing intensive research which lead to her partnering with silver carp fisherman as well as ethical cricket farms! I had the honor of interviewing Haley on my podcast in which you can listen to more about her story here – Apple and Spotify.

Whose Chippin for?

Chippin dog food and treats are recommend for 1 years old and old. This benefits dogs with sensitive stomachs as most allergies from food stem from the processed scraps of protein found in chicken, beef, and lamb based foods. Hypoallergenic proteins such as crickets, spirulina, and silver carp support gut health in dogs from the studies they’ve done. It is made to meet the AAFCO nutritional requirements for adult dogs.

SustainabilityReducing the Carbon Paw Print

1 bag of Chippin treats saves 40 gallons of water over an average dog treat!

Chippin uses human grade fish silver carp which is an over populated fish that we need to fish for. By fishing for silver carp, they help restore wildlife biodiversity and protect the Great Lakes–a drinking water source for more than 48 million people.

Spirulina is ecologically grown in a closed-loop water and nutrient recycling system. Growing spirulina requires the use of CO2 and absorbs it while other proteins emit it.

It only takes 1 gallon of water to produce 1lb of cricket protein, but 2,000 gallons of water to produce 1lb of beef protein. More than 80% of our water usage goes to agriculture, livestock management is a leading cause of deforestation, and livestock and manure management are leading causes of methane emissions. Crickets emit no methane emissions and use a tiny fraction of the water and land. *taken from Chippin website
